The Advisor to the Prime Minister on National Security, commonly referred to as the National Security Advisor (NSA), is a senior official, aide, and the key adviser to the Prime Minister on Pakistan on national and international security issues. The National Security Advisor participates in National Security Council in regards to brief the participants on issues involving the national security of the country and regularly advised the Prime Minister on all matters relating to internal and external threats to the country, and oversees strategic issues. In addition, the advisor frequently accompanies the Prime Minister on Foreign state visits.〔 The National Security Advisor is supported by the National Security Staff (NSS) at the Prime Minister's Secretariat in Islamabad that produces research and briefings for the National Security Advisor to review and present, either to the National Security Council or directly to the Prime Minister. The post was created in 1969 by then-President Yahya Khan with Major-General Ghulam Omar being the first advisor.〔 As of current, Nasir Janjua, a retired army general, serves in this capacity since 23 October 2015. ==Past National Security Advisers==
